Denise Calvetti Michaels teaches Psychology at Cascadia Community College.
Denise also works as a child care licensor for the Division of Child Care and Early Learning and offers training workshops and consultation on child development, child-centered learning environments and staff professional development. Mother to three daughters; grandmother to Holden, Maizie and Calder, Denise writes poetry and memoir. Her poems are published in Crosscurrents, Paterson Literary Review, and King County Poetry on Buses. Polenta, a memoir that tells the story of growing up Italian American in Salinas, California, is included in a new anthology, The Milk of Almonds, Italian American Woman on Food and Culture published by the Feminist Press, 2002. She recently completed, Opus Reticulatum --A Work of Webbing, a poetry collection that explores the architecture of memory.
