Midterm and final exams: Ensure that you can attend them

The goal for this exercise is to make sure that you're able to attend the scheduled midterm and final exams.  If you cannot make either (or both) exams then you need to negotiate a mutually agreed upon time with the instructor.

In the course orientation (and in the Syllabus ) you were told that you will need to take the midterm and final exams in a a proctored exam situation.
As explained in the orientation the instructor will proctor the exam for free on the day and time specified on the main page for this course.

What you need to do for this exercise:

  1. If you CAN attend the exam on the specified day and time then you need to create a Word (or .PDF) document which is named EXAM_PLANS.DOCX, and in that document you should state clearly that you can make the midterm and/or final exams.  You must include your name, which exam(s) you're able to attend, and the date and time of the exams.

  2. If you cannot attend the exam on the specified day and time then you are required to make alternate arrangements with the instructor in the first or second week of the course.  You should do this by emailing the instructor to arrange an alternate proctoring time for the exam(s) and working something out with the instructor.  Then you need to create a Word (or .PDF) document which is named EXAM_PLANS.DOCX, and in that document you should state clearly the arrangement that was made with the instructor, including the date, time, and location of the exam(s).

    1. Please keep in mind that the instructor will only proctor exams on the same day as the 'normal' class time exam listed on the course home page.

    2. Further, please keep in mind that the instructor normally only schedules alternate exams during the day, and immediately adjacent to the 'normal' exam time.

      1. For example, here in the 2017 quarter: since class meets at 1:15pm on Wednesdays, the instructor is able to proctor the exam at 11am on Wednesdays.

    3. Exam times that are slightly outside of these bounds (say, by about 30 minutes or less) may be accommodated - you should contact the instructor and ask.  Keep in mind that the further outside of the above bounds your request is the harder it will be to accommodate it.

    4. If you're unable to make one (or both) exam(s) and you don't arrange an alternate time in the first two weeks then you must take the exam at the scheduled day and time, or else get a zero for the exam.

      1. Exception: If other students have arranged an alternate exam proctoring with the instructor the teacher may, and their discretion, allow you to take your exam at that other time.  Keep in mind that the instructor may say no to this request (for example, if there isn't enough room to add another student to the alternate exam proctoring).

  3. If you can attend one of the exams but not the other then you need to create a Word (or .PDF) document which is named EXAM_PLANS.DOCX, and in that document you should follow the instructions above (in steps 1 or 2) for each exam.
For example: If you can attend the midterm but not the final please follow step 1 above to clearly state that you'll attend the midterm, then follow step 2 above to arrange your final exam.

  4. Regardless, you need to include your EXAM_PLANS.DOCX file in the .ZIP file that you hand in for this week's lessons.
