How to create a basic outline in Word using a bulleted/numbered list
Advanced Trick: Controlling your media player while typing into Word
It is recommended that you watch the first two videos above, read this document
in detail, then watch the "Advanced Trick" video only after you've created
an outline or two.
Overview:
Starting with this lesson you will watch each video and then create an outline of the content in the video. The goals of this are to force you to actually watch the video (by making you produce something that can be graded), provide a way for the instructor to assess your learning, and to do so in a way that is more open-ended (and hopefully less time consuming) than filling out a detailed 'viewing quiz'.
The individual lines in your outline should be brief, but must make sense to an outside reader who has also watched the video. While you're not required to use complete sentences your writing should be clear enough for someone else to make sense of.
Specification Details:
You must put all the outlines in the same file; this file should be provided to you each week. You must SEPARATE EACH OUTLINE WITH A "HEADER" CONTAINING THE TITLE OF THE LINK (from the web page) and the file name (if you choose to download the video - if you watch it online you can leave this out). This must be bold-faced and centered so it stands out from the outlines. If you need to put this in on your own it's probably best to just copy and paste an existing header and edit the text for your new outline, but the instructor will normally put these in the starter file for you.
You must use a bulleted (or numbered) list for the outline
Do NOT rely on Word's "Outline View" to produce the outline
You will be provided with a starter document in Microsoft Word format. You can submit a Word document or a PDF document that contains your work.
You're welcome to use programs other than Word to produce the outline but the resulting .PDF must then look like the formatting in the starter document.
"look like" means that you need to use a bulleted/numbered list, you need to have an outline header above each outline as described above, etc. You do not need to produce an exact duplicate of whatever Word would produce.
