Lesson 08 In-Class Exercises

Before starting any specific exercise, you may wish to download, extract, and open up the provided starter project for THE PRE-CLASS EXERCISES for this lesson so that you'll have it ready when you need/want it.

Part 1: Tracing the Lecture Code

Please download a BIT 142 Program Trace Table for each slide that the instructor instructs you to trace through.

Fill in an individual trace table for each program that the instructor has directed you to trace through.

Be ready to present your work to the rest of the class, including being able to explain how the program works.

NOTE: For these traces the focus is on learning the details of how File I/O works.  There may be parts of the program that you can skim through because they're not really important for the file I/O.  Feel free to skip over / skim over these parts, but make sure that you include all the lines relevant to file I/O

Slides to trace:

• 26 (sum up all the numbers in the 5 line input file)
• 30 (sum up all the numbers in the arbitrarily long file, skipping non-numeric input)
• 37 (reading an entire file)

Part 2: Homework Work Time

Once you've finished all of the prior exercises you should spend any remaining time on any incomplete homework assignments (or incomplete revisions to homework assignments)
