Mars is one avenue of astrobiological research.
Terraforming is the concept of changing an atmosphere so that it is
similar to earths.
This idea has captured the idea of many.
Although the details of such an endeavor would take an amazing amount of
resources to figure out, the goal would be the same.
Create an environment on Mars where people could live.
However,
the complex scientific, legal, ethical and financial implications of
terraforming any planets are enormous.
