Recently, two groups of fossils have been discovered hinting at a long Precambrian history of metozoan life.

Adolf Seilacher claims he discovered fossilized worm burrows from rocks over one billion years old!  Other scientists are sceptical, however, because they believe something else could have caused the burrows.
A discovery of a fossil deposit has been found in Southern China.  The fossil had been preserved for 570 millions years.  In it are 570 million year old algae and tiny spheres believed to be embryos in early cleavage states. These fossils are important because the cleavage states they exhibit are very similar to the modern nematode, flatworm and arthropod embryos.  So by this, it is possible that they represent a potential source of Precambrian metazoan folssils.
