Astrobiology is the science of studying the origin and evolution of life on Earth in relation to the possibility of life existing elsewhere in the universe. This can be accomplished by understanding what elements are needed to sustain life. Scientists use Earth as their basis to test the extreme circumstances through which life can survive. In their research it has been concluded that there are three main prerequisites for life's existence. They are water, energy, and organic compounds.
