Introduction

Panspermia is the idea of life being spread throughout the galaxy by colliding objects that carry the "seeds of life."  The seeds of life are seen as tiny bacteria and viruses that have the possibility of mutating to form life.

Panspermia Theory

It is a common fact that the large majority of material in our universe is material left over from the explosion of dying stars.  With this fact isn't it logical to conclude that life formed as bacteria under the right conditions, and was spread across space on comets and asteroids.  Planets and stars are formed from the collection of matter that was already in existence and probably already had a use.

To this day there could be comets and asteroids flying around the Universe that contains the seeds for life.  We do not know this as complete fact as of yet because very little hard evidence can be found.  The residue from previous meteors that impacted with earth were either burned in our atmosphere, or was eradicated on impact.  Another problem is, that comets and asteroids seldom come close to earth, and we do not have the technology yet to land on an asteroid or comet, take a sample and then jettison back to Earth.  This still leaves the possibility for future explorations and adventures in space.

Could this be the way Earth began life?

The Comet Shoemaker-Levy, is seen as it collides with Jupiter.
