HOMEWORK GUIDELINE SHEET

The following procedure must be followed in order to receive maximum points for assignments.

Important:        Homework will be collected at the beginning of class on the day of the exam.

No homework will be accepted after the exam for any reason!

REMEMBER:       F Your homework GRADE IS part of your final grade!  E

1.         All assignments must be completed in pencil only.

2.         Problems must be numbered according to the numbers in the assignment.

3.         Copy the problem from the book and show all steps in working the problem from start to finish and circle or box all answers.  (For word problems, you do not need to copy the problem; instead write down your set-up for the problem.)

4.         All work must be neat and orderly.  Do not scribble or draw lines through incorrect work — use an eraser!

5.         Leave a space between problems — do not “cram” too many problems on one page.

6.         Use ONE COLUMN only.  Neatness is important in mathematics: it helps you communicate your solution.  Make your pages organized and easy to follow.

7.         All assignments must be completed on regular 8½ x 11 notebook paper (no fringes on the end).  Use white, wide ruled or college ruled paper.  Use graph paper only for graphs.

8.         Quadrille (4 or 5 boxes per inch) graph paper must be used for graphs.  Make sure the graphs are labeled appropriately (axes labels and numerical scales).  Cut out your graphs and paste into the assignment at the appropriate spot.

F Do not sketch graphs on ruled paper – use GRAPH paper!! E

9.         Each section assigned must start on a new sheet of paper.  Begin each section by writing the assignment (section number and the problems assigned) on the first line.  You may use the back of the paper for the same section only.

10.        Your last name and the book section number should appear on the front side only of every page in the top right hand corner.

11.        Create a fancy cover page that includes the title “Portfolio of Learning” and your name, class, and section numbers included in the folder.

12.        Compile all your papers into the prongs of a Duo-Tang folder IN ORDER (cover page then first assignment, etc.).  Do not put papers in the pockets.

NOTE:  Copying your solutions directly from the solutions manual is a violation of the Academic Honesty policy and, as such, may cause you to receive a zero on the entire homework folder.  Please use the Student Solutions Manual only as a GUIDE.
