Course runs Monday, Sep-23 through Monday, Dec-12. The first day of Lab is 9/25 (in CC1-330).

If you do not enroll this Fall, the complete 161 / 162 / 163 sequence will also be offered W, Sp, Su '20, and not repeated until Fall '20. There will be two or three sections of Spring CHEM&162 (contingent on enrollment) and one or two sections of Summer CHEM&163. See the on-line class schedule.

Textbook: Gilbert, Kriss, Foster, Davies, “Chemistry: The Science in Context,” 4th ed (2105); ISBN 978-0-393-91937-0 (hardcover; loose-leaf and ebook formats are welcome).  Access to SmartWork is not required and you may purchase a used copy without a key code.

A Canvas site (on-line course support) is available. It will also be required for the course in case of college closure or instructor absence. Course content, including daily class notes, will be posted under Files. See: https://cascadia.instructure.com . If you are not yet registered, this current web page will contain the first week's documents.

Wait List and Late add policy:
If there is no wait list, late adds made be made 9/23 and 9/25. If there is a wait list a few wait-listed students may be enrolled in order of priority of the wait list.  Please attend on 9/23 and lab 9/25. A decision will be made at the end of lab on 9/25 for those in attendance who have attended both 9/23 and 9/25. NO additions will be made after 9/25.


Laboratory Information:
The first lab date is 9/25, which will be an orientation and introduction session. Please read the Table of Contents and Appendices document on Canvas, or through my faculty website, above.  You will need to read the Safety Protocol (pp. 5 - 6) and complete a signature form in lab.  Please have a laboratory notebook and safety goggles as described in the Syllabus and Lab Manual by the lab period on 10/2.  All subsequent lab experiments will be on Canvas under Files > Laboratory.
