The complete 161 / 162 / 163 sequence will be offered W, Sp, Su '18, and not repeated until Fall '18. There will be two or three sections of Spring CHEM&162 (contingent on enrollment) and one or two sections of Summer CHEM&163. See the on-line class schedule.
Registration Information (you will need item number 1900 and select Fall session).
Textbook: Gilbert, Kriss, Foster, Davies, “Chemistry: The Science in Context,” 4th ed (2105); ISBN 978-0-393-91937-0 (hardcover; loose-leaf and ebook formats are welcome). Access to SmartWork is not required and you may purchase a used copy without a key code. Note that this is a new textbook for this course and it will be used for 162 and 163.
A Canvas site (on-line course support) is available. It will also be required for the course in case of college closure or instructor absence. Course content, including daily class notes, will be posted under Files. See: https://cascadia.instructure.com . If you are not yet registered, this current web page will contain the first week's documents.
Late add policy:
If there is no wait list, late adds made be made until 9/28. If there is a wait list a few wait-listed students may be enrolled in order of priority of the wait list. Please attend on 9/27 and 9/28. A decision will be made at the end of class on 9/28 for those in attendance who have attended both 9/27 and 9/28. NO additions will be made after 9/28.
The first lab is the first day of the course, 9/27, which will be an orientation and introduction session. Please read the Table of Contents and Appendices document on Canvas, which will also be linked below no later than 1 week before classes; all lab experiments will be on Canvas. You will need to complete the Safety Protocol signature form (p. 6). Please have a laboratory notebook and safety goggles as described in the Syllabus and Lab Manual by the lab period on 10/4.
